GRADA Youth Ultimate ~ Spring League 2003

ORANGE - 2003 GRADA SPRING YOUTH LEAGUE CHAMPIONS!

First of all, kudos to all the players, parents and coaches for braving our cool, damp spring weather and playing/cheering/coaching with loads of spirit. Great job to all! Thanks Ann Colasurdo and Barb Carson for covering the EMT spot. As the league continues to grow I see this as a crucial element and I'm always looking for qualified individuals. Ann and Barb did a great job! Also, thanks to Andy Acer and John Terninko for field/bin management and general assistance. Out of 10 teams, 6 managed to field teams for the misty play off day. (between proms, SAT II's, concert trips, etc...6 pretty full teams was a great turn-out!) For those who didn't have enough players, a very fun round of pick up was played - thanks to the coaches without teams (kinda like doctors without borders...) a good time was had by all! Okay, important things first. SPIRIT. This season's Overall SPIRIT AWARD (elected by the coaches) went to...JAMES SAMUELSON for his everpresent smile, great attitude and tremendous spirit -- play after play, game after game. Congratulations JAMES!!! OVERALL TEAM SPIRIT AWARD - elected by all teams: AXEGRINDER BLOODSTONE (mostly Websterians) and they love their name! Individual Spirit Awards as elected by teammates: Axegrinder Bloodstone: Big John (Smith) Orange: Chris Yarger Lilac Lovers: Ted Mosher Funk Nuggets: Katie DaRin Pink Lemonade All Stars: Jackie Lombard Red Dragons: Matt Sydor Funky Spoon Ninjas: Charlie Neumann Cedarhouse Rules: Charlie Whistler Landsharks: Christine Preddy Bahama Breeze: TBD (no shows) AND, after tremendous play (what an improvement by ALL teams in just a few short weeks!) and an impressive demonstration of skill and heart in the finals, the team with the least creative name but champions nonetheless, the winner is...ORANGE! JUST NY: Speaking of States...The Pittsford Sugar Daddy team took 2nd place at JUST NY on Sunday, beating last years' champions Stuyvesant Sticky Fingers and well-versed Beacon Blue Demons! Great job Pittsford!!! (Scarsdale won this year).
