Here is the schedule, format, and rules for this year’s league. Contact Doug Singer, League Director,
with any questions at doug@grada.org.
1.
If you see
any minor field hazards, cover them with a marker disc.
2.
If you see
any serious field hazards, stop play and notify the field
marshal.
3.
Any player
who has blood visible anywhere on his/her body or uniform must leave the field
immediately - using injury sub rules - until appropriate bandaging or uniform
change is completed.
4.
No players
under the age of eighteen (18) years may take the field.
5.
The
policies of Brighton Town Park and the City of Rochester prohibit alcohol at the
fields.
The Brighton Town Park fields are at 777 Westfall Road. The Elmwood field is behind the hockey
rink on the southwest corner of Elmwood Ave and the Genesee River. The South Ave field is at Duffy School
#12 on South Avenue across from Highland Hospital.
We're continuing with an 8-team single elimination playdown bracket for the playoffs.
Regular Season: Teams will be split into two equal pools of six teams. During the first five weeks, each team will play the other five teams in its pool. Within each pool, teams will then be ranked purely by won-loss record and tie-breakers.
Playoffs: During the final three weeks of the season, the top 4 teams in each pool will play in an 8-team single elimination bracket. The bottom 2 teams from each pool will form a group of 4 for round robin play.
Tie-breakers: The following
rules will be used in any instance where a tie in won‑loss record needs to be
broken. A more detailed explanation
is available at
http://www.cs.rochester.edu/u/ferguson/ultimate/upa-formats/upa-formats-basic.html#S2.6.
1.
Won-loss
record in games among tied teams.
2.
Point
Differential in games among tied teams.
3.
Point
Differential among all common opponents of tied teams.
4.
More, if
we need them….

We’ll be using the rules of ultimate which have been modified to reflect
the minor variations we use in Rochester.
The full set of rules is at www.GRADA.org in the menu list along the left
side of the page.
Items of
Note:
1.
All games
are played to 15 points – win by two – during Regulation. There is a Point Cap at 17, no win by
two.
2.
Games are
7 on 7 unless a team has only 6 or 7 players, in which case the game will be 6
on 6. Teams must have at least 6
players to begin the game. Any team
with fewer than 6 players 15 minutes after start time automatically
forfeits.
3.
Pull.
a)
If the disc hits and remains in-bounds or is caught in-bounds, the disc
is put into play at the spot where the disc comes to rest or is caught. This includes discs coming to rest or
caught in the endzone.
b)
If the disc initially hits in-bounds, then becomes out-of-bounds before
being touched by the receiving team, the disc is put into play at the spot on
the playing field proper (i.e., excluding the end zones) nearest to where it
last crossed the perimeter line before becoming
out-of-bounds.
c)
If the disc becomes out-of-bounds after being touched by the receiving
team, the disc is put into play at the spot on the playing field nearest to
where the disc last crossed the perimeter line before becoming
out-of-bounds.
d)
If the disc initially hits an out-of-bounds area, the receiving team has
the option of putting the disc into play:
(1) at
the spot on the playing field proper nearest to where the disc last crossed the
perimeter line in flight; or,
(2) after
signaling for a brick/middle by fully extending one hand overhead and calling
“brick” before gaining possession of the disc:
(a) at
the brick mark (20 YARDS) closest to the end zone the receiving team is
defending; or
(b) at
the spot on the long axis of the field nearest to where the disc last crossed
the perimeter line in flight.
4.
One Time
Out per half PLUS one floater.
5.
Callahan
Goal is Legal: If a defender
intercepts a pass in his own endzone, it is a goal for the team on
defense.
6. Continuation is in effect. If a violation is called (pick, travel, etc.) while the disc is in the air, or the offense throws the pass after the call is made, then the disc is still live. If the offense committed the violation and does not complete the pass, it is a turnover.
7. Foot blocks are allowed in GRADA leagues unless captains agree prior to the game to prohibit them
8.
When Time
Cap is called by the Field Marshal:
A.
Complete
the current scoring attempt in Regulation (Note that the “current scoring
attempt” begins immediately after the
previous point was scored and includes the line-switch time before a pull). If this results in a team achieving a
winning score according to Rule #1 above (a team has scored 15 or more points
and is leading by at least 2; OR a team has scored 17 points regardless of the
lead size), the game is over under Regulation rules. If not, proceed to
8.B.
B.
Add two
points to the highest score to determine the Time Cap Score. If the calculated Time Cap Score exceeds
the Point Cap of 17, then set the Time Cap Score to 17.
C.
When
playing in Time Cap, the game is over when either team reaches the Time Cap
Score (no win by two) OR a team reaches 15 points and is winning by at least
2.
D.
If a team
has Time Outs remaining when Time Cap begins, they may use a maximum of one TO
during Cap. No extra TO’s are
awarded during Cap.
9.
At any time during a game when both teams have a
least two women present and capable of playing, both teams are required to have
at least one woman on the field.
10.
ROSTERS: Your initial rosters were submitted
before the season began. Any team
may add players to its roster at any time UP UNTIL THE BEGINNING OF THEIR FIRST
PLAYOFF GAME IN WEEK 6, OCTOBER 14.
In order to have a new player (one not on the initial roster) eligible to
play in the last three weeks, you must notify me before the October 14 game by:
(1) calling Doug Singer at 477-6781; OR (2) emailing me at doug@grada.org; OR
(3) signing an updated roster sheet with a field marshal if one is on duty. Playoff games with unrostered players
will be forfeited. Additionally,
once a player has played in any game for any team, that player may not play for
any other team for the rest of the season.
11. LIGHTS:
a.
If we have
light trouble that prevents an entire game from being started or played at all,
it will be rescheduled.
b.
If lights
come on late, or they go out temporarily when they're not supposed to during a
game, the game will be halted and restarted when the lights are back on. If the delay was less than 15 minutes,
the original cap applies. If the
delay was more than 15 minutes, the game continues until cap time, at which
point the game is suspended and the rest of the game will be
rescheduled.
c.
If the
lights go out any time after 10:55 and a game is not
finished,
i.
the game
is over immediately and the team with the higher score wins, even if the game is
in cap.
ii.
if the
game is tied, the team on offense wins.
Note that the team which is about to receive a pull is on
offense.
12. WEATHER: Games WILL be played if rain is falling without lightning. At the first sign of lightning, any player may call a lightning delay. All players should leave the open field immediately and seek shelter, however games are not immediately cancelled. Remain off the field until no lightning is seen or heard for 10 minutes. If a game can not be completed due to lightning delay, or other serious weather, then the game will be postponed until the Oct 9 make-up day. The teams involved may also finish the game any date before Oct 9 on their own. If a game had been in progress when it was halted, the make-up game continues on from that same score.
