2003 GRADA Fall Friday League

Schedule Updated 8/18/03         Scores Updated 10/25/03

GRADA Fall Friday League comes to an end none too soon as temperatures started dipping into the gloves-and-fleece range pretty regularly.

Some old faces (literally) remain at the top with The Gang beating all comers again this year to win the championship against Disc Enchanted.  Jammers made the move from a perennial 0.500 team to come in third.  Here's how it all shook out.

            1.  Gang

            2.  Disc Enchanted

            3.  Jammers

            4.  Mudhens

            5.  Salamanders

            6.  Freaky Weasel

            7.  Dirt

            8.  O'Loughlins

            9.  Spudheds

            10.  Compost

            11.  Large Dickey’s

            T12.  Hott 2 Trott

            T12.  Piggies

Hope you all had fun.  Next up, five months to rest your knees with some occasional indoor thrown in.

Schedule

Seeding is based on a weighted average of the last three BYOT season performances (Spring02, Fall02, Spring03).  Don’t get your egos too bent; they’re just used to split pools roughly evenly.

Rules

We’ll be using the rules of ultimate which have been modified to reflect the minor variations we use in Rochester.  The full set of rules is at www.GRADA.org in the menu list along the left side of the page.

Items of Note:

1.   All games are played to 15 points – win by two – during Regulation.  There is a Point Cap at 17, no win by two.

2.   Games are 7 on 7 unless a team has only 6 or 7 players, in which case the game will be 6 on 6.  Teams must have at least 6 players to begin the game.  Any team with fewer than 6 players 15 minutes after start time automatically forfeits.

3.   Pull.

A.      Any disc landing in-bounds must be put into play from WHERE IT IS CAUGHT.  This includes discs caught or coming to rest in the endzone.

B.      The Brick for pulls landing out of bounds is 20 yards.

4.   One Time Out per half PLUS one floater.

5.   Callahan Goal is Legal:  If a defender intercepts a pass in his own endzone, it is a goal for the team on defense.

6.   Continuation is in effect.  If a violation is called (pick, travel, etc.) while the disc is in the air, or the offense throws the pass after the call is made, then the disc is still live.  If the offense committed the violation and does not complete the pass, it is a turnover.

7.   When Time Cap is called by the Field Marshal:

A.        Complete the current scoring attempt in Regulation (Note that the “current scoring attempt” begins immediately after the previous point was scored and includes the line-switch time before a pull).  If this results in a team achieving a winning score according to Rule #1 above (a team has scored 15 or more points and is leading by at least 2; OR a team has scored 17 points regardless of the lead size), the game is over under Regulation rules. If not, proceed to 6.B.

B.        Add two points to the highest score to determine the Time Cap Score.  If the calculated Time Cap Score exceeds the Point Cap of 17, then set the Time Cap Score to 17.

C.       When playing in Time Cap, the game is over when either team reaches the Time Cap Score (no win by two) OR a team reaches 15 points and is winning by at least 2.

D.       If a team has Time Outs remaining when Time Cap begins, they may use a maximum of one TO during Cap.  No extra TO’s are awarded during Cap.

8. At any time during a game when both teams have a least two women present and capable of playing, both teams are required to have at least one woman on the field.

9. ROSTERS:  Your initial rosters were submitted before the season began.  Any team may add players to its roster at any time UP UNTIL THE BEGINNING OF THEIR FIRST PLAYOFF GAME IN WEEK 8, OCTOBER 17.  In order to have a new player (one not on the initial roster) eligible to play in the last two weeks, you must notify me before the October 17 game by: (1) calling Doug Singer at 477-6781; OR (2) emailing me at doug@grada.org; OR (3) signing an updated roster sheet with a field marshal if one is on duty.  Playoff games with unrostered players will be forfeited.  Additionally, once a player has played in any game for any team, that player may not play for any other team for the rest of the season.
