GRADA Night Flight Fall League 2000
CHAMPIONSHIP REPORT: Coming into the Night Flight championship game, both the defending champs the Gang and first time Night Flight challengers the Flying Salamanders were wound tighter than Stevie Ray Vaughan's E-string, resulting in a little more yapping than necessary. While the Salamanders struggled with their nerves early and fell behind 9-2 before putting together a decent run in the second half, the Gang came out with strong play from the beginning. In the end, the Gang prevailed 17-8 and showed (again) why they've won the Night Flight championship for, like, every year but one since time immemorial. Congratulations to the Gang for another fine season, somehow managing to get another year older but not another year slower...congratulations to the Salamanders for extending their Buffalo Bills-like record (0-3 in the last three Spring Fling championships) by making it to their first appearance in the Fall Classic.
Special thanks to Mother Nature for giving us great weather to play all through the Fall with temperatures 20 degrees above normal. For anyone that missed it, Indian summer officially ended 10 minutes after the championship game as the winds kicked up and the temperature dropped 15 degrees.
Major thanks to all the teams for their willingness to adapt to changes for the final 2 weeks of the season. We hope that it resulted in (generally) better matchups, but most importantly we hope that everyone enjoyed the opportunity to play against and get to know as many other players as possible....remember, our shared enjoyment of Ultimate makes us infinitely more similar than our participation on opposite teams makes us different.
It's clear that this season's format has flaws. All input (and help) is welcome as we try to develop a better format for the league next year. GRADA is currently preparing a survey to gather player input on all GRADA leagues in an effort to improve the formats where possible. Thanks for your constructive input as well as any assistance in coordinating leagues that you may be able to offer.

LEAGUE RULES |
The GRADA board is asking all players to show their support for ultimate in Rochester by becoming a voting member of GRADA. Cost is only $10 per year. To encourage fall teams to increase membership, GRADA is making the following special offers:
Any team increasing the number of GRADA voting members on their fall roster to 7 or more BEFORE the end of the season receives a 10% credit (of their fall registration fee) to apply towards their spring league registration fee.
Any team increasing the number of GRADA voting members on
their fall roster to 100% BEFORE the end of the season will receive a 20% credit
of their fall registration fee to apply towards their spring league registration
fee.
[Please note, these offers are valid only for discounts not already received for current fall registration.]
Games will be played 7 on 7 UNLESS a team only has 6 or 7
players, in which case the game will be 6 on 6.
Points are assessed at 1 for every five minutes past start
time either team does not have 6 on the line.
The “field marshal” will let a captain know when they may begin
assessing points. The “field marshal” will not automatically assess points
– the captain must request that the field marshal begin assessing points.
The "field marshal" will settle disputes that
cannot be settled by the captains. The
“field marshal” is the ultimate authority.
Their decisions are final!
NO OPEN CONTAINERS OF ALCOHOL ARE PERMITTED AT EITHER FIELD
SITE! This is the policy of both
the City of Rochester and the Town of Brighton.
Please do not jeopardize our field permits!
All players must complete and sign a waiver form before
they can play. Additional players
may be added to the roster during the season, but only after a waiver is
completed and signed! Any team who
violates this rule is subject to immediate forfeit of that evening’s game.
Based on team input, this fall games will once again be
played to 15 points, halftime at 8. There
is a soft cap of 2 points over the high score 15 minutes before the start of the
next game and a hard cap at 5 minutes before start of the next game (at hard
cap, finish the current point, if teams are tied, play continues for one more
point).
Timeouts:
Each team receives one time out per half plus one floating time out to use in either half.
Time outs last one minute.
Except as stated here, the latest edition of the UPA rules
applies (9th Edition with amendments).
Please note the new UPA rules regarding the pull adopted in
the fall of 1998 apply:
1. The brick mark is 20 yards.
2. If the pull is allowed to land (i.e. not caught) it is played as follows:
a. If the pull lands out-of-bounds, the receiving team has the option of putting the disc into play:
i. at the brick mark; or
ii. at the point on the playing field proper nearest where the disc went out-of-bounds; or
iii. halfway between the two sidelines at the point on the playing field proper nearest where the disc went out-of-bounds.
b. If the pull lands in-bounds, then rolls out-of-bounds, the disc is put into play at the point on the playing field proper nearest where the disc went out-of-bounds (NOTE: The playing field proper is the playing field excluding the end zones).
c. If the pull lands in-bounds and does not roll out-of-bounds, the disc must be put into play at the point where the disc comes to rest. (Note: existing rules allowing players to stop a rolling disc still apply.)
3. If the pull is caught, the disc must be put into play at the point on the playing field nearest where the disc was caught.
4. If either team is off-sides, the other team may request a re-pull. The request must be made immediately.
AND ABOVE ALL ELSE DON’T FORGET TO KEEP UP THE SPIRIT!
